Summer Tip – Stay Cool, Stay Connected!
Each month, we’re asking one of our amazing caregivers to share a simple but valuable piece of advice—straight from the field. These are the little things that make a big difference in the day-to-day care of our clients, especially during the changing seasons.
This Month’s Advice:
“Keep a cool washcloth in the fridge—it’s a quick and soothing way to cool down on hot summer days.”
— Maria, Caregiver at Hope Senior Home Care
Why It Works:
Many of our clients are more sensitive to heat as they age, and staying cool isn’t just about comfort—it’s about health. Maria’s trick of keeping a soft, damp washcloth in the refrigerator (or freezer for a few minutes) can provide quick relief from summer heat without having to adjust the thermostat.
Simply place it gently on the neck, wrists, or forehead for an instant cooling effect. It’s safe, simple, and works wonders—especially after a walk, during outdoor visits, or even just sitting in a sunlit room.
Caregiver Insight:
“I like to turn it into a little self-care ritual,” says Maria. “Sometimes we’ll add a drop of lavender or mint essential oil to the cloth for an extra refreshing touch. My client loves it—it’s like a mini spa moment in the middle of the day!”
Extra Summer Tips from the Field:
- Encourage light, breathable clothing (cotton is best!)
- Offer chilled fruit or water with lemon and mint
- Plan outdoor time in the morning or early evening
- Keep blinds or curtains drawn during peak sunlight hours
